Wordle-ing Away

Wordle is a browser-based application that creates "maps" of whatever text a user enters. When it creates the map, Wordle scales the font sizes based on frequency of the use of a word. For example, if I entered "tree, tree, tree, flower", tree would be much larger because it occured more often in the string of text I entered.

Today, we used our OAA reflections to create a map of what skills we're not quite feeling fantastic about. Targeted practice for each student (based on their feelings and the data we've gathered up to this point) will be the majority of our homework for the next few weeks.

If you have any suggestions of strategies that have worked in the past for your child and may help another child's lightbulb go off, feel free to send them my way!

Do Your Best!

As the OAA approaches, we're spending some time focusing on test-taking strategies and getting excited to show what we know! We wrote a song to the tune of "Let It Go" and are You Tube official! Here's a link to the lyrics: click here

Reflections on Blended Learning Tools

We use a variety of techology tools to help facilitate working at our own independent levels. Below are two student reflections on their favorite blended learning tools.

IXL
by Lindsay C.
On IXL I have earned 30 medals. I've answered 1,143 questions. I've practiced for 7 hours and 42 min, and mastered 36 skills. I have also revealed 21 prizes. I have completed all except one of the multiplication skill-builders. That is what has been keeping me busy!

RAZ
by Aidan F.
RAZ is a reading website where you can read real books. You can also collect stars. Stars can buy things like ninjas and monsters and several other things on the "RAZ Rocket".

Students will recieve this week's packet printed tomorrow and next week's next Monday, but feel free to print and work ahead if there is a busy week on the horizon!

Math packet due THIS Friday (4/11)

C.U.B.E.S.

One of our favorite strategies for attacking word problems is the nemonic device C.U.B.E.S. We've been practicing this strategy in class and on our homework this week, and I had a few requests to upload the poster we've been using. And, a bonus... The C.U.B.E.S. lyrics to a catchy tune to help us out!

Happy solving!

Measurement Exploration

Student post by Kendra C.
First, we found an object 30 cm or less and brought it back to our seat. Then, we got rulers and measured our object. Next, we wrote a note to go with our object telling if we measured the length or width. Finally, we went around the room measuring other peoples' objects and kept a list of our answers.

Fractions, Perimeter, and Area Reivew with Portraits

Student-written post by Ethan H.

Our Portraits
First, we figured out how we wanted our face or body to look. We laid out the squares on a large piece of construction paper. Then, we glued them down without having any squares overlapping so that we could calculate fractions, perimeter, and area. We had to write 5 fractions about our picture and find the perimeter and area of our picture.
